🛒 Ingredients

6 servings

6
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 500 g ground beef
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 can tomato sauce (about 400 g)
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 500 ml whole milk
  • 200 ml heavy cream
  • fresh lasagna sheets (about 300 g)
  • 500 g sliced cooked ham
  • 500 g shredded or sliced mozzarella
  • 100 g grated Parmesan

Directions

  1. 1

Sauté the chopped onion in a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat until soft and translucent.

  2. 2

Add the ground beef and cook over high heat, breaking it apart, until browned. Season with salt.

  3. 3

Stir in the tomato sauce, reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes until the bolognese is well-seasoned and fragrant.

  4. 4

In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the flour all at once and whisk constantly for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.

  5. 5

Gradually pour in the warm milk, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Season with pepper, stir in the cream, and cook until thickened into a smooth béchamel.

  6. 6

Preheat oven to 180 °C (350 °F). Spread a thin layer of bolognese on the bottom of a greased baking dish.

  7. 7

Layer lasagna sheets, ham, mozzarella, and béchamel. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.

  8. 8

Finish with a generous topping of béchamel and Parmesan. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbling.

💡 Chef's Tip

Warm the milk before adding it to the roux to get a smoother, lump-free béchamel. The bolognese can be made a day ahead for deeper flavor.
