Directions

  1. 1

Cook the pasta in boiling salted water according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour and stir for 2 minutes.

  3. 3

Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Let the sauce thicken for about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar, Gruyère, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Mix until the sauce is smooth and the cheese has melted.

  5. 5

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Combine the cooked pasta with the cheese sauce in a baking dish.

  6. 6

Sprinkle the grated Parmesan over the top and bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.

  7. 7

Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving.

💡 Chef's Tip

Use high-quality pasta for the best texture. You can add diced ham or spinach for variety. For an even creamier sauce, replace half of the milk with sour cream or crème fraîche. Avoid boiling the sauce once the cheese is added to ensure it stays smooth.
