🛒 Ingredients

15 servings

15
  • 250 g (1 cup) vegetable shortening, at room temperature
  • 1 can (14 oz / 395 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 100–150 g (1 to 1½ cups) powdered sugar, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (optional)

Directions

  1. 1

Allow the vegetable shortening to rest at room temperature for 15 minutes. Place it in a stand mixer bowl or use a handheld electric mixer. Beat on medium speed for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.

  2. 2

With the mixer running, stream in the sweetened condensed milk slowly until fully incorporated. Add the powdered sugar little by little, tasting as you go to reach your preferred sweetness level.

  3. 3

Increase to high speed and beat for 4–5 minutes until the frosting is thick, glossy, and holds stiff peaks. Add the vanilla extract and any food coloring, then beat for 2 more minutes until smooth.

  4. 4

Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a star tip and decorate your completely cooled cake with rosettes, borders, or freehand designs.

  5. 5

Refrigerate the decorated cake until ready to serve. The frosting holds its shape at room temperature for up to 3 hours.

💡 Chef's Tip

For best results, ensure cake layers are completely cooled before frosting to avoid melting. If the frosting softens on a warm day, chill the bowl for 10 minutes, then re-whip briefly to restore its firmness.
