🛒 Ingredients

6 servings

6
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 500 g beef (chuck or round), cut into thin strips
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tomatoes (peeled and seeded), diced
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 1 apple, peeled and diced
  • 1 ripe banana, sliced
  • 50 g shredded coconut
  • 50 g golden raisins
  • 120 ml plain yogurt
  • Fresh flat-leaf parsley or chives, chopped, to garnish

Directions

  1. 1

Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion until soft and golden, about 5 minutes. Add the beef strips and brown on all sides.

  2. 2

Sprinkle the flour over the meat and stir to coat. Add the cloves, cinnamon, and curry powder, stirring for 2 minutes to toast the spices and release their aromas.

  3. 3

Dissolve the bouillon cubes in 1 litre of boiling water and pour over the meat. Add the diced tomatoes, cover, and simmer on low heat for 35–40 minutes until the beef is tender.

  4. 4

Stir in the apple, banana, shredded coconut, and raisins. Continue cooking uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 5

Remove from heat and gently fold in the plain yogurt. Season with salt to taste.

  6. 6

Garnish with fresh parsley or chives and serve immediately with basmati rice or naan bread.

💡 Chef's Tip

For a richer, creamier sauce, substitute Greek yogurt for plain yogurt. This dish tastes even better the next day, as the spices and flavors continue to develop overnight.
