🛒 Ingredients

8 servings

8
  • 1 round tender ham (about 1.5 kg / 3.3 lbs)
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (for marinating)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Whole cloves, as needed
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (for the sauce)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp poultry seasoning
  • 2 cups orange segments (about 2 oranges)
  • 1 tbsp fresh mint, finely chopped

Directions

  1. 1

Place the ham in a shallow dish, pour the orange juice over it, and marinate in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

  2. 2

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Score the surface of the ham with a knife in a diamond crosshatch pattern and press a whole clove into each diamond point.

  3. 3

Transfer the ham to a roasting pan, dot the top with butter, and pour the marinade over.

  4. 4

Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.

  5. 5

Remove the foil, baste with the pan drippings, and roast uncovered for another 10 minutes until golden. Set aside.

  6. 6

In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine orange juice, brown sugar, honey, cornstarch, mustard, ginger, and poultry seasoning. Cook, stirring constantly, for about 10 minutes until slightly thickened.

  7. 7

Add the orange segments and simmer for 5 more minutes until the sauce lightly coats a spoon.

  8. 8

Remove from heat and stir in the fresh mint.

  9. 9

Arrange the ham on a serving platter, drizzle with some sauce, and serve the rest alongside in a gravy boat.

💡 Chef's Tip

For an extra glossy glaze, brush the ham with a honey and orange juice mixture during the last 5 minutes of roasting. Leftovers taste even better the next day as the flavors deepen overnight.
