A beloved Brazilian party dessert that needs no oven at all: a creamy condensed-milk and coconut base topped with silky chocolate ganache. Stir, chill overnight, and it's ready. The kind of sweet that vanishes from the dish before dinner is even over.

🛒 Ingredients

10 servings

10
  • 395 g sweetened condensed milk (1 can)
  • 100 g shredded coconut
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 300 g heavy cream (or canned table cream)
  • 4 tbsp sweetened cocoa powder (instant chocolate drink mix works)
  • 1 pinch flaky salt (optional)

Directions

  1. 1

In a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat, combine the condensed milk, shredded coconut and 1 tbsp of butter. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and pulls cleanly away from the sides of the pan, about 10 minutes.

  2. 2

Spread this base evenly in a rectangular dish and let it cool to lukewarm.

  3. 3

Rinse the pan, then melt the remaining butter with the cream and cocoa powder. Stir over low heat until you have a smooth, slightly thickened ganache, about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

Pour the still-warm ganache over the coconut base and smooth the top with a spatula.

  5. 5

Cover and refrigerate overnight. Cut into squares and serve well chilled.

💡 Chef's Tip

Let the coconut base cool to barely warm before pouring the ganache, or the layers will blur together. For a firmer base, cook it 2–3 minutes longer — it should release from the pan cleanly. Sweetened instant cocoa gives that nostalgic flavour; unsweetened cocoa makes the topping more intense, so add a spoonful of sugar to taste.
