This wonderfully smooth and light frosting comes together in just minutes with only two main ingredients. It pipes beautifully and holds its shape perfectly, making it a go-to choice for cake decorating at any skill level. Best of all, it has zero greasy aftertaste — just pure, creamy sweetness on every slice.

🛒 Ingredients

4 servings

4
  • 500 g (1.1 lb) cold vegetable shortening, cut into small cubes
  • 2 cans (14 oz / 395 g each) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 pinch of fine salt

Directions

  1. 1

Cut the cold shortening into small, even cubes and place them in the bowl of a stand mixer or a large mixing bowl.

  2. 2

Beat the shortening with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until it becomes pale and fluffy.

  3. 3

With the mixer on low speed, slowly pour in the sweetened condensed milk in a thin, steady stream to avoid splashing.

  4. 4

Once all the condensed milk is fully incorporated, increase to medium-high speed and beat for an additional 1–2 minutes until the frosting is smooth, firm, and glossy.

  5. 5

Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor, if using.

  6. 6

Use right away to frost and pipe decorations onto your cake, or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

💡 Chef's Tip

For sharper piping details, chill the frosting for 15 minutes before decorating. Gel food coloring blends in seamlessly without thinning the consistency. In warm weather, keep the finished cake refrigerated until serving time.
