🛒 Ingredients

4 servings

4
  • 1 cup whole milk (250 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 slices processed cheese (cream cheese or mild melting type)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Grated nutmeg to taste (optional)

Directions

  1. 1

In a cold saucepan, combine the milk and cornstarch. Whisk vigorously until fully dissolved with no lumps before applying any heat.

  2. 2

Add the butter and the cheese slices, then place the pan over medium heat.

  3. 3

Stir continuously with a spatula or whisk, scraping the bottom of the pan, until the mixture thickens and just begins to simmer.

  4. 4

Season with salt and a touch of nutmeg, then remove from heat. The spread will firm up slightly as it cools — that is perfectly normal.

💡 Chef's Tip

Always use sliced processed cheese rather than grated cheese: it melts more evenly and gives a silky, lump-free texture. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
