🛒 Ingredients

10 servings

10
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz / 395 g)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (for vanilla layer)
  • 1¼ cups whole milk (for vanilla layer)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (for chocolate layer)
  • 1¼ cups whole milk (for chocolate layer)
  • 3 heaping tbsp sweetened cocoa powder (e.g. Nesquik)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

Directions

  1. 1

Make the vanilla layer: whisk 1 tbsp cornstarch into a small amount of cold milk until smooth, then combine with the remaining milk and condensed milk in a saucepan.

  2. 2

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Reduce heat and simmer for 4 more minutes.

  3. 3

Remove from heat, let cool completely, and pour into your serving dish. Set aside.

  4. 4

Make the chocolate layer: dissolve 2 tbsp cornstarch in a splash of cold milk, then add the remaining milk, cocoa powder, butter, and sugar to a saucepan.

  5. 5

Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously, until thickened. Simmer over low heat for 4 more minutes.

  6. 6

Let the chocolate cream cool, then carefully spread it over the vanilla layer.

  7. 7

In a bowl, combine the heavy cream and powdered sugar without cooking, stirring until smooth and well blended.

  8. 8

Spoon the sweetened cream evenly over the chocolate layer to form the final topping.

  9. 9

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving well chilled.

💡 Chef's Tip

Dust with cocoa powder or chocolate shavings just before serving. Crushed cookies layered between each tier add a satisfying crunch. This dessert keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
