🛒 Ingredients

4 servings

4
  • 800 g (1¾ lb) boneless chicken breast, sliced into steaks
  • 3 medium yellow onions, sliced into rings
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Dried oregano to taste
  • ½ cup (120 g) good-quality mayonnaise
  • ½ cup (120 ml) water, used in small amounts throughout

Directions

  1. 1

Season chicken steaks with salt and pepper on both sides. Set aside.

  2. 2

Slice onions into medium-thick rings and set aside.

  3. 3

Melt butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add chicken steaks in batches, fitting as many as the pan allows.

  4. 4

Cook until deeply golden on both sides, pressing gently to prevent sticking.

  5. 5

Add 1 tablespoon of water to the pan, cover, and cook until the liquid evaporates completely. Remove chicken and keep warm.

  6. 6

    Repeat with remaining chicken steaks.

  7. 7

In the same skillet, sauté onion rings for 3–4 minutes until golden and soft.

  8. 8

Pour in the remaining water, cover, and simmer until reduced by half.

  9. 9

Turn off the heat and stir in the mayonnaise and oregano until you have a smooth, creamy sauce.

  10. 10

Spoon the sauce generously over the chicken steaks and serve immediately.

💡 Chef's Tip

A thick, high-quality mayonnaise makes all the difference here — it creates an incredibly silky sauce. Serve with white rice or mashed potatoes to soak up every last drop.
