🛒 Ingredients

1 servings

1
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp chocolate drink powder (or cocoa powder)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil
  • For the sauce:
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 level tbsp butter
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream

Directions

  1. 1

In a large microwave-safe mug (about 300 ml), whisk together the flour, sugar and chocolate powder.

  2. 2

Add the egg and beat well with a fork, then stir in the milk and oil until the batter is smooth.

  3. 3

Microwave on full power for 3 minutes. Tip: as soon as the batter starts to rise, pause the microwave, let it settle, then start it again. Repeat until it stops sinking back: the cake is done.

  4. 4

Make the sauce: combine the sugar, cocoa, milk and butter, then microwave on full power for 30 to 40 seconds.

  5. 5

Poke a well in the centre of the cooked cake, scoop out a little crumb and pour in half of the warm sauce.

  6. 6

Drop the scoop of vanilla ice cream into the well, spoon the rest of the sauce over it and add sprinkles or candies if you like.

  7. 7

Serve right away, while the centre is still molten.

💡 Chef's Tip

Use a tall mug so the batter can rise without overflowing. Microwaves vary a lot: adjust the time in 30-second bursts and stop as soon as the centre is just set, or the cake turns dry. The sauce thickens quickly, so assemble and serve straight away.
