🛒 Ingredients

1 servings

1
  • 1 cup (130 g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
  • ⅓ cup (80 ml) warm water
  • ½ tsp fine salt
  • Optional: garlic powder, dried herbs, or chilli flakes
  • A drizzle of neutral oil for cooking

Directions

  1. 1

Combine the flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Stir in any optional spices at this stage.

  2. 2

Add the warm water gradually, mixing with a fork first, then kneading by hand for 1–2 minutes until you have a smooth, soft dough that doesn't stick to your fingers. Adjust with a splash more water or a pinch more flour as needed.

  3. 3

Let the dough rest for 5 minutes, then roll it out on a lightly floured surface to about ⅛ inch (3 mm) thick. For a stuffed version, add grated cheese or deli meat, fold over and roll flat again.

  4. 4

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat with a drizzle of oil. Cook the flatbread for 2–3 minutes per side until lightly golden and cooked through.

  5. 5

Serve warm with butter, cream cheese, jam, or use as a wrap with chicken, pulled pork, or your favourite fillings.

💡 Chef's Tip

Swap a splash of water for warm milk for an even softer texture. A pinch of baking powder gives a slightly puffier result. The dough keeps well in the fridge for up to 24 hours wrapped tightly in cling film.
