🛒 Ingredients

1 servings

1
  • 1 can (14 oz / 397 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 14 oz (397 ml) whole milk (same volume as condensed milk)
  • 5 tablespoons sweetened cocoa powder (such as Nesquik)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Directions

  1. 1

In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, whisk the cornstarch into the sweetened condensed milk until completely smooth — take your time here to prevent lumps from forming during cooking.

  2. 2

Add the whole milk, cocoa powder, butter, and honey. Stir well until all ingredients are fully combined.

  3. 3

Cook over low heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula, for 10–15 minutes until the mixture thickens noticeably.

  4. 4

Remove from heat when the frosting is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon and hold its shape without running.

  5. 5

Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then spread between cake layers as a filling or pour over the top as a glaze.

  6. 6

While still warm and pliable, use a fork to draw decorative swirls or patterns on the surface for an elegant finish.

💡 Chef's Tip

For deeper chocolate flavor, substitute sweetened cocoa with unsweetened cocoa powder and add 2 tablespoons of sugar. The frosting continues to thicken as it cools — if it sets too firm, reheat gently over low heat with a splash of milk, stirring until smooth.
