🛒 Ingredients

100 servings

100
  • 500 g (1 lb) vegetable shortening, at room temperature
  • 1 can (14 oz / 395 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 pinch of fine salt

Directions

  1. 1

Remove the vegetable shortening from the fridge at least 30 minutes ahead so it softens to room temperature.

  2. 2

Beat the shortening in a stand mixer or with a hand mixer on medium-high speed for 3–4 minutes until pale and fluffy.

  3. 3

With the mixer on low, slowly pour in the condensed milk in a thin, steady stream to keep the frosting from deflating.

  4. 4

Add vanilla extract and salt, increase speed to high and beat for a further 4 minutes until the frosting is glossy, smooth, and holds stiff peaks.

💡 Chef's Tip

Tint the frosting with gel food coloring added during the final mixing stage. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days; re-whip briefly before using.
