🛒 Ingredients

12 servings

12
  • 50 g fresh yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs
  • approx. 4 cups (1 kg) all-purpose flour
  • 12 beef or chicken burger patties
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced into rounds
  • 200 g cream cheese
  • 1 egg yolk for glazing

Directions

  1. 1

Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk and let stand 5 minutes until foamy. Add the oil, sugar, salt, and eggs, then mix until smooth.

  2. 2

Pour the mixture into a large bowl and gradually add the flour, kneading until the dough is soft and no longer sticks to your hands. Cover with a clean cloth and rest for 15 minutes.

  3. 3

Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each into a flat circle about 15 cm (6 in) across.

  4. 4

Place a tomato slice, a burger patty, a heaped spoonful of cream cheese, and another tomato slice in the center. Fold the dough over and seal the edges tightly.

  5. 5

Arrange seam-side down on a greased and floured baking tray. Brush with egg yolk and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.

  6. 6

Bake at 220 °C (425 °F) for 15 minutes, then reduce to 180 °C (350 °F) and continue baking 15–20 minutes until deep golden brown.

💡 Chef's Tip

Pinch the dough edges firmly to keep the filling inside during baking. Swap cream cheese for mozzarella or cheddar for a different flavor profile.
