Krispy Kreme Style Donuts
Soft, melt-in-your-mouth donuts coated in a sweet vanilla glaze. A traditional recipe that delights with every bite thanks to its light texture and irresistible flavor.

- 2 1/4 tsp (7g) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup (60ml) warm water
- 1 1/2 cups (360ml) water
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp (5g) salt
- 2 eggs
- 2.6 oz (75g) vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup (120ml) milk
- 3 1/2 cups (400g) powdered sugar (for the glaze)
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 6 tbsp (90ml) boiling water
- 2.6 oz (75g) butter
- Frying oil (approx. 2 quarts)
- All-purpose flour (for dusting)

Dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Add the milk, sugar, salt, eggs, shortening, and 2 cups of flour.

Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl. Continue beating on medium speed for 2 minutes.

Incorporate the remaining flour until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise for 50-60 minutes until doubled in volume.

Lightly flour your work surface. Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a donut cutter.

Cover the donuts and let them rise for 30-40 minutes until doubled.

Heat the oil to 350°F. Fry the donuts for 1 minute on each side until golden brown.

Remove with a slotted spoon and drain. Dip into the vanilla glaze.

Glaze: Melt the butter, add the powdered sugar and vanilla. Gradually thin with the boiling water.
💡 Chef's Tip
Do not poke the donuts when turning them. Use a wide spatula. The glaze should be pourable but not too thin. Consume the same day to enjoy the soft texture.
