🛒 Ingredients

4 servings

4
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 heaping tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 egg yolk, sieved
  • 1 heaping tablespoon margarine or unsalted butter
  • 1 heaping tablespoon cornstarch

Directions

  1. 1

Combine the milk, sugar, cocoa powder, sieved egg yolk, margarine and cornstarch in a medium saucepan.

  2. 2

Cook over low heat, stirring constantly with a whisk or spatula until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 8–10 minutes.

  3. 3

Remove from heat and immediately pour the warm glaze over your carrot cake, spreading evenly with a spatula.

💡 Chef's Tip

Keep stirring constantly to prevent lumps. For a richer flavour, swap margarine for real butter. Pour while hot — the glaze thickens quickly as it cools.
