🛒 Ingredients

16 servings

16
  • 1 French baguette or 4 bread rolls, preferably day-old
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz / 397 g)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Sunflower oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar and cinnamon for serving

Directions

  1. 1

Cut the baguette into thick slices, about ¾ inch (2 cm) each.

  2. 2

In a shallow dish, whisk together the whole milk and condensed milk until fully combined.

  3. 3

Soak the bread slices in the milk mixture for 2–3 minutes per side until well saturated.

  4. 4

In a separate shallow dish, beat the eggs with the cinnamon and vanilla extract.

  5. 5

Dip each soaked slice into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly.

  6. 6

Heat sunflower oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the slices for 2–3 minutes per side until deep golden brown.

  7. 7

Drain on paper towels, then dust generously with powdered sugar and a pinch of cinnamon.

  8. 8

Serve warm for a crispy bite, or refrigerate and enjoy cold for a softer, creamier texture.

💡 Chef's Tip

Day-old bread absorbs the custard without falling apart — fresh bread tends to get too soggy. For an extra indulgent version, swap the baguette for brioche and add a pinch of nutmeg to the egg mixture.
