🛒 Ingredients

1 servings

1
  • 1 large orange (zest + juice)
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water (about 100 ml)

Directions

  1. 1

Wash the orange well and finely zest it using a grater or zester. Set the zest aside.

  2. 2

Cut the orange in half and squeeze out all the juice. Strain if needed.

  3. 3

In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the sugar and let it melt undisturbed until it turns into a light golden caramel.

  4. 4

Carefully pour in the orange juice — it will sizzle. Stir vigorously to combine.

  5. 5

Bring to a boil, then gradually stir in the water, mixing continuously.

  6. 6

Reduce heat and simmer until the syrup lightly coats the back of a spoon, about 5–7 minutes.

  7. 7

Remove from heat, stir in the reserved orange zest, and let cool slightly before serving.

💡 Chef's Tip

For a richer syrup, substitute the water with extra orange juice. A cinnamon stick or star anise added during cooking makes a lovely spiced variation for the holidays.
