🛒 Ingredients

5 servings

5
  • 1 cup (200 g) short-grain white rice
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar, to taste
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon self-rising flour
  • 1 pinch of fine salt
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 3 whole cloves, finely ground
  • Coconut oil or neutral vegetable oil for frying

Directions

  1. 1

Rinse the rice well and soak it in a bowl of cold water for 10 to 12 hours, or overnight, until the grains are fully softened and swollen.

  2. 2

Drain the soaked rice thoroughly and blend it with a tiny splash of water — just enough to get the blades moving smoothly.

  3. 3

Add the egg, sugar, self-rising flour, salt, milk, and ground cloves to the blender. Blend until you have a smooth, uniform batter.

  4. 4

Heat the coconut oil or vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry the fritters one at a time, about 2–3 minutes per side, until deep golden brown.

  5. 5

Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar if desired.

💡 Chef's Tip

The longer the rice soaks, the creamier and smoother the batter will be. Always test the oil temperature with a small drop of batter — it should sizzle instantly. Frying one fritter at a time keeps the oil hot and the results crispy.
