  • 200 g (7 oz) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 eggs
  • 300 g (1½ cups) sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 125 g (1 cup) all-purpose flour
  • 100 g (1 cup) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 125 g (½ cup + 1 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
  • 100 g (½ cup) brown sugar
  • 100 g (½ cup) white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 220 g (1¾ cups) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 150 g (1 cup) chocolate chips

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 175 °C (350 °F). Grease and flour a 20x20 cm (8x8 inch) square baking pan.

  2. 2

Make the brownie batter: sift flour, cocoa powder and salt together into a large bowl.

  3. 3

In a separate bowl, whisk melted butter with sugar, eggs and vanilla until smooth and glossy.

  4. 4

Fold the flour mixture into the wet ingredients and stir until fully combined.

  5. 5

Pour brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly to the edges with a spatula. Set aside.

  6. 6

Make the cookie dough: beat softened butter with both sugars until light and creamy.

  7. 7

Mix in the egg and vanilla until well incorporated.

  8. 8

Sift in flour, baking powder and salt together, then mix until a smooth dough forms.

  9. 9

Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

  10. 10

Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the raw brownie batter, covering nearly the entire surface.

  11. 11

Bake for 25–30 minutes. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.

💡 Chef's Tip

For extra fudgy brownies, pull the pan from the oven when the center still jiggles slightly — it will set as it cools. Leftover cookie dough? Shape into balls and bake separately for 10 minutes for bonus cookies!
