Directions

  1. 1

Remove the halloumi from its packaging and carefully pat it dry with paper towels — this is crucial to achieve a crispy crust.

  2. 2

Cut the halloumi into regular sticks about 1 cm thick and 6 cm long.

  3. 3

In a bowl, mix together the cornstarch, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Coat each stick with this mixture, pressing gently to ensure it adheres well. Shake off any excess.

  4. 4

Option: Pan-frying - Heat the olive oil over medium-high heat in a non-stick pan. Fry the sticks for 2-3 minutes on each side until they have a beautiful golden crust. Don't overcrowd the pan — cook in batches if necessary.

  5. 5

Option: Air Fryer - Lightly spray the sticks with oil and arrange them in a single layer in the basket. Cook at 200°C for 10 minutes, flipping halfway through.

  6. 6

While the halloumi is cooking, prepare the glaze: Combine the honey, chili flakes, and apple cider vinegar in a small saucepan. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth and slightly syrupy. Remove from heat.

  7. 7

As soon as the halloumi sticks are golden brown and hot, place them immediately on a serving plate. Drizzle generously with the spiced honey glaze while still warm.

  8. 8

Sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt and some chopped parsley. Serve immediately — halloumi is best enjoyed hot.

💡 Chef's Tip

The secret to perfectly crispy halloumi: don't flip it more than once in the pan, and resist the temptation to move it! If using an Air Fryer, a light spray of oil gives an even crisper result. Prepare the glaze ahead of time and reheat when serving — it keeps for up to a week in the fridge.
