  • 1 litre whole milk (4 cups)
  • 2 cans sweetened condensed milk (about 800 g)
  • 200 ml heavy cream
  • 5 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 500 g fresh strawberries
  • 2 packets strawberry jelly powder

Directions

  1. 1

In a large saucepan, combine the milk, sweetened condensed milk and cornstarch. Whisk until smooth.

  2. 2

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens noticeably.

  3. 3

Remove from the heat, let it cool for a few minutes, then whisk in the heavy cream.

  4. 4

Pour the cream into a large mould or deep dish and smooth the surface with a spatula.

  5. 5

Wash and hull the strawberries, halve them and arrange them evenly over the cream.

  6. 6

Prepare the jelly with half the usual water: 150 ml boiling water to dissolve the powder, then 150 ml cold water.

  7. 7

Gently pour the cooled jelly over the strawberries, covering the whole surface.

  8. 8

Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, until the jelly is fully set, before serving.

💡 Chef's Tip

Use ripe, fragrant strawberries — they carry all the flavour. For a clean unmould, briefly dip the dish in hot water. The dessert keeps for 2 to 3 days in the fridge, covered with cling film.
