🛒 Ingredients

8 servings

8
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz / 395 g)
  • 3 cans of whole milk (use the empty condensed milk can as a measure)
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 egg whites
  • 3 heaping tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 can sliced peaches or apples in syrup (29 oz / 820 g), drained
  • 1 cup heavy cream or thick sour cream (200 g)
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar (2 per egg white)

Directions

  1. 1

In a medium saucepan, whisk together the condensed milk, 3 cans of whole milk, egg yolks, and cornstarch until smooth and lump-free.

  2. 2

Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens into a smooth custard that coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and let cool completely.

  3. 3

In a serving dish or baking pan, spread a layer of the cooled custard, followed by a layer of drained and sliced fruit. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used up.

  4. 4

Using a hand mixer, beat the egg whites to stiff peaks. Gradually add the sugar (2 tablespoons per white) while continuing to beat until the meringue is glossy and firm.

  5. 5

Gently fold 2 to 3 tablespoons of heavy cream into the meringue, keeping as much volume as possible. Spread the mixture over the dessert to cover completely.

  6. 6

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving chilled.

💡 Chef's Tip

Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the custard for extra depth of flavor. This dessert keeps well overnight in the fridge — great for making ahead.
