🛒 Ingredients

2 servings

2
  • Frosting: 3 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp sweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp margarine
  • Filling: 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz / 395 g)
  • 1 tbsp margarine
  • 5 tbsp sweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 can light cream (7 oz / 200 ml)
  • Lemon-lime soda (to soak the cake layers)

Directions

  1. 1

Make the frosting: combine sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and margarine in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches a boil. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.

  2. 2

Make the filling: in a separate saucepan, combine condensed milk, cocoa powder, and margarine. Stir well off the heat, then cook over low heat, stirring continuously until thick and creamy. Fold in the light cream, mix well, and remove from heat. Allow to cool completely before using.

  3. 3

Soak the cake: poke holes all over each cake layer using a fork. Drizzle lemon-lime soda evenly over each layer to moisten the crumb — a little goes a long way.

  4. 4

Assemble: spread the cooled filling generously between each layer. Cover the entire cake with the slightly warm frosting, spreading it smoothly over the top and sides.

  5. 5

Decorate with chocolate sprinkles or toasted coconut flakes for a beautiful, bakery-style finish.

💡 Chef's Tip

The fork-poke trick is essential — it lets the soda seep deep into the crumb, making each bite incredibly moist. For a firmer filling that holds its shape between layers, refrigerate it for 30 minutes before spreading.
