🛒 Ingredients

15 servings

15
  • 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar (for the batter)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 cups (480 ml) boiling water
  • 2 cups (250 g) sweetened chocolate milk powder
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar (for the glaze)
  • 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons whole milk

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 350 °F (180 °C). Grease and flour a large baking pan.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and chocolate milk powder until evenly combined.

  3. 3

Add the oil and lightly beaten eggs, stirring with a wooden spoon until the batter is smooth.

  4. 4

Pour in the boiling water last and mix until fully incorporated. The batter will be thin — this is expected and gives a perfectly moist crumb.

  5. 5

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

While the cake cools slightly, make the glaze: combine the sugar, cocoa powder, and milk in a small saucepan.

  7. 7

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens into a glossy, pourable chocolate sauce.

  8. 8

Drizzle the warm glaze evenly over the still-warm cake. Allow it to set at room temperature before slicing.

💡 Chef's Tip

Using boiling (not just hot) water activates the cocoa's flavors and creates a remarkably tender, fudgy crumb — don't swap it for cold or warm water.
