8
  • 3 eggs
  • 200 ml sunflower oil (or melted butter)
  • 240 ml granulated sugar
  • 240 ml hot water
  • 240 ml unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 300 g (approx. 480 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp (11 g) baking powder

Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 350 °F (180 °C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (24 cm) round cake pan.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, oil, hot water and salt until smooth and well combined.

  3. 3

Sift the cocoa powder over the mixture and stir until fully incorporated.

  4. 4

Gradually fold in the flour, stirring gently after each addition to prevent lumps from forming.

  5. 5

Add the baking powder last and mix for a few more seconds without over-working the batter.

  6. 6

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

💡 Chef's Tip

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with a simple chocolate glaze for an extra indulgent finish.
