8
  • 1 can (14 oz / 395 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (10 oz / 300 g) heavy cream
  • 3⅓ cups (800 ml) whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch — for the cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar — for the cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter — for the cream
  • 2½ cups (300 g) all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch — for the crumble
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar — for the crumble
  • 7 tablespoons (100 g) cold unsalted butter — for the crumble
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

Directions

  1. 1

Make the cream: combine the condensed milk, heavy cream, whole milk, cornstarch, sugar, and butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Remove from heat and set aside.

  2. 2

Make the crumble: mix together the flour, cornstarch, sugar, and baking powder. Add the cold diced butter and beaten egg, then rub between your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse, sandy crumbs.

  3. 3

    Preheat oven to 350 °F (180 °C). Grease and flour a rectangular baking pan (about 12 x 8 inches).

  4. 4

Press half of the crumble evenly onto the bottom of the pan to form a firm base layer.

  5. 5

Pour all of the cream filling gently over the crumble base, spreading it evenly.

  6. 6

Sprinkle the remaining crumble loosely over the cream layer, covering the entire surface.

  7. 7

Bake for 35 minutes until the top is golden. Allow to cool completely before slicing into squares.

💡 Chef's Tip

For best results, let the cake cool fully before cutting — the cream firms up as it cools, giving you clean, neat slices. A teaspoon of vanilla extract stirred into the cream makes it even more aromatic.
