🛒 Ingredients

1 servings

1
  • 100 g vegetable shortening, at room temperature
  • 1 can (397 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 10 tablespoons powdered (icing) sugar, sifted
  • 1 bottle red food coloring

Directions

  1. 1

Combine the vegetable shortening and sweetened condensed milk in the bowl of a stand mixer or use a hand mixer. Beat on high speed for 3–4 minutes until the mixture is smooth, fluffy, and well combined.

  2. 2

With the mixer still running on high, add the sifted powdered sugar one tablespoon at a time. Continue beating after each addition until the frosting reaches stiff, glossy peaks and holds its shape.

  3. 3

Using an offset spatula, spread about two-thirds of the frosting evenly over the top and sides of a medium-sized cake, smoothing the surface for a clean finish.

  4. 4

Add red food coloring to the remaining frosting in the bowl and beat briefly until the color is fully incorporated. Transfer the colored frosting to a piping bag fitted with your preferred decorating tip.

  5. 5

Pipe decorations onto the cake — rosettes, borders, lettering, or swirls — as you like. Refrigerate for 15 minutes to set before serving.

💡 Chef's Tip

For the smoothest result, make sure your shortening is at room temperature before starting. Leftover frosting keeps well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; re-whip briefly before using.
