Directions
- 1
Combine the water or milk, margarine, bouillon cubes, salt, and spices in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- 2
Stir until the margarine melts and the bouillon cubes dissolve completely. Taste and adjust seasoning before proceeding.
- 3
Bring to a full boil, then immediately reduce heat to low and add all the flour at once.
- 4
Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan and forms a smooth ball.
- 5
Turn the dough out onto a lightly greased surface and flatten it with a rolling pin while still hot.
- 6
Once cool enough to handle, knead by hand until the dough is completely smooth and pliable.
- 7
Fill, shape, coat in breadcrumbs, and deep-fry in hot oil until golden and crispy.
💡 Chef's Tip
Using milk instead of water gives a richer, softer dough. Always knead the dough while warm — cold dough cracks when shaped. Freeze shaped, unfilled pieces on a tray first, then transfer to bags for up to 3 months.
