🛒 Ingredients

15 servings

15
  • 1 packet of plain sweet biscuits (like Petit Beurre or tea biscuits), about 200 g
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (397 g)
  • 500 ml whole milk (about 2 ½ cans)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 heaped tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 heaped tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 100 g dark chocolate + 200 ml heavy cream (for the topping, optional)
  • Chocolate sprinkles and cherries or strawberries, to decorate

Directions

  1. 1

In a saucepan, whisk the condensed milk, milk, egg yolks, cocoa and cornstarch until you have a completely smooth mixture with no lumps.

  2. 2

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens and coats the back of a spoon (about 5 to 7 minutes).

  3. 3

In a large dish, alternate a layer of custard with a layer of dry biscuits, repeating and always finishing with a layer of custard.

  4. 4

Crumble a few biscuits over the top for crunch. For a topping, warm the cream, pour it over the grated chocolate, stir, then spread it over the pudding.

  5. 5

Scatter with chocolate sprinkles, decorate with cherries or strawberries and chill for at least 3 to 4 hours. Serve well chilled.

💡 Chef's Tip

Never soak the biscuits: they soften on their own against the custard and keep a better texture that way. Make the pavê the day before — it only gets creamier.
