🛒 Ingredients

15 servings

15
  • 3 cups long-grain white rice
  • 1 cup green or brown lentils
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Boiling water, as needed
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • Salt to taste
  • 7 oz (200 g) smoked sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced

Directions

  1. 1

Heat a large pot over medium-high heat and cook the smoked sausage slices until golden and slightly crispy on both sides.

  2. 2

Add the thinly sliced large onion and cook together until soft and lightly caramelized. Set aside.

  3. 3

In the same pot, heat the oil over medium heat and sauté the crushed garlic and finely chopped onion until golden and fragrant.

  4. 4

Add the lentils and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Add the rice and crumbled bouillon cubes, stirring well and cooking for another 3 minutes.

  5. 5

Pour in enough boiling water to cover the mixture by about 1.5 inches (4 cm). Season with salt. Cook semi-covered over medium heat until the liquid is fully absorbed and both rice and lentils are tender, about 20 minutes.

  6. 6

Transfer to a serving dish and top with the sausage and caramelized onion mixture. Serve hot.

💡 Chef's Tip

Soaking the lentils in cold water for 30 minutes before cooking ensures even, tender results. Swap smoked sausage for chorizo or smoked bacon for a different flavor twist.
