🛒 Ingredients

8 servings

8
  • 1 kg beef (sirloin, tenderloin or rump)
  • 1 ripe tomato, diced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1/2 bell pepper
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 100 ml water
  • 150 g sliced mushrooms
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 200 g sour cream or heavy cream

Directions

  1. 1

Slice the beef into thin strips and season generously with salt and black pepper.

  2. 2

Melt 3 tbsp of butter in a large skillet over high heat. Sear the beef until all the cooking liquid has evaporated. Set aside.

  3. 3

In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter over medium heat. Sauté the onion until translucent.

  4. 4

Add the diced tomato and bell pepper. Pour in the water and let simmer for 4 minutes to build a light sauce.

  5. 5

Return the beef to the skillet, stir to combine, and cook for 2 to 3 more minutes.

  6. 6

Add the tomato paste, ketchup, mustard and mushrooms. Mix well and cook for another 3 minutes.

  7. 7

Remove from heat and stir in the cream until the sauce is smooth and velvety. Serve immediately.

💡 Chef's Tip

Serve over white rice or fresh egg noodles. For extra richness, use full-fat sour cream. Avoid boiling after adding the cream to prevent it from splitting.
