🛒 Ingredients

10 servings

10
  • 1 kg cassava, boiled and mashed while still hot
  • 2 cups grated cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt to taste
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • A squeeze of lemon juice or a splash of white vinegar
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes, crumbled
  • Fresh parsley and black pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for deep-frying

Directions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine the hot mashed cassava with grated cheese, olive oil, parsley, oregano and salt. Mix until you get a smooth, pliable dough. Set aside.

  2. 2

In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef in olive oil with garlic, crumbled bouillon cubes, lemon juice and pepper, stirring frequently.

  3. 3

Cook until all moisture has evaporated and the meat is lightly browned. Remove from heat and fold in fresh parsley.

  4. 4

Scoop a portion of cassava dough into your palm, flatten it slightly, place a spoonful of beef filling in the center and seal tightly into an oval shape.

  5. 5

Deep-fry in batches in hot oil (175 °C / 350 °F) until evenly golden brown, about 3–4 minutes per batch.

  6. 6

Drain on paper towels and serve immediately with a dipping sauce of your choice.

💡 Chef's Tip

Keep your hands slightly damp while shaping to prevent the dough from sticking. These bites freeze beautifully before frying — cook straight from frozen for a quick appetizer anytime.
