Directions
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, grated onion, egg and rolled oats. Mix gently with your hands — avoid over-working the meat to keep the patties tender.
- 2
Add the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, dried herbs, salt and pepper. Mix just until the seasonings are evenly incorporated.
- 3
Divide the mixture into 5 equal portions. Shape each into a round patty about ¾ inch (2 cm) thick, pressing a slight indent in the centre with your thumb to prevent puffing during cooking.
- 4
Cook on a preheated grill or skillet over medium-high heat for 3–4 minutes per side. To freeze, lay raw patties on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, freeze until solid, then transfer to freezer bags for up to 3 months.
💡 Chef's Tip
Chill the shaped patties in the fridge for 20–30 minutes before grilling — they hold their shape better and develop a nicer crust. Never press them with a spatula while cooking or you'll lose all those precious juices.
